Ana Maria Gower will be opening her solo show “Women” in Кућа Ђуре Јакшића on July 2, 2023 at 5 pm.
Show Description:
Seven portraits investigate the lives of seven Balkan women of the past and the present.
Stylistically inspired by Modigliani, Picasso, and Frida Kahlo, these portraits tell the story of violence, betrayal, kindness, and hope.
Portraits are filled with symbolic language and enriched by material artifacts – photographs, elements of clothing, even parts of human body – which serve as artistic talismans, anchoring the work of art to the real people who inspired it.
This series is an homage to women everywhere and an attempt to pose uncomfortable questions about the femininity in the Balkans, female agency, self-reliance, and overcoming intergenerational trauma.
